...This is a brief, brief introduction to the world of Spanish language hip hop. Often times over-shadowed by African-American contemporaries, young Puerto Ricans, Cubans and Dominicans were a vital element of innovating hip hop culture and music in New York City in the late 70's. In many ways this shared heritage has been forgotten, but hip hop continues to flourish in almost the entirety of the Spanish speaking world.
Here we have artists hailing from Puerto Rico, Cuba, Argentina, Chile, Panama, Peru, Colombia, Venezuela, Mexico, Spain, UK and the US. This is not reggaeton, this is not salsa, this is not tango, this is not son. Esto es hip hop Español.
